Arnoldo Jimenez was arrested without incident in Monterrey, Mexico, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in connection with the 2012 killing of 26-year-old Estrella Carrera. Carrera was discovered deceased in the bathtub of her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, less than 48 hours after she had exchanged vows with Jimenez.
Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder, leading to a state warrant for his arrest issued on May 15, 2012, followed by a federal warrant two days later for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The effort to capture Jimenez involved collaboration between FBI Chicago, FBI San Antonio, FBI LEGAT Mexico City, and the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois.
