The suspect arrested for allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday has a documented history of supporting Democratic political candidates and causes, according to reports.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, from Kaaawa, Hawaii, has been identified as the individual behind the assassination attempt, and his political donations and social media activity are now under scrutiny.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that Routh has made 19 donations to Democratic campaigns and organizations through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s primary fundraising platform.
These donations, which began during the 2020 election cycle, amount to a total of $144.40.
The largest single contribution was $25 to Beto for America, a political action committee supporting Beto O’Rourke’s unsuccessful presidential bid. Other Democratic candidates who received donations from Routh include Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, and Tom Steyer.
Routh’s small but numerous contributions have shed light on his political leanings, which may provide some context for his motivations.
