The Satanic Grotto leader founder Michael Stewart was taken into custody late Friday morning after punching a counter protester inside the Kansas Statehouse during the Satanic group’s “Black Mass” event.
According to WIBW, Stewart made his way inside the Capitol building at around 11:30 am and made his way to the visitor’s entrance security checkpoint at the north side of the building. He said that he was entering as a private citizen. Law enforcement told him he could enter, but could not perform any demonstrations inside. The March 28 event was initially scheduled to take place inside the building but was moved outside earlier in March by Democrat Governor Laura Kelly.
In the rotunda, Stewart held in arms in the air and made a dedication to Satan, WIBW reported. One woman told Stewart that he was not allowed to do that and a man approached Stewart with a medallion and prayed. A third person approached Stewart and video showed Stewart throwing a fist.
Stewart was seen throwing a punch at the counter protester after he appeared to grab for something in Stewart’s hand, resulting in police tackling Stewart to the ground and placing him in handcuffs.
