Donald Trump is considering a right-wing media personality, people who have served on his US Secret Service detail, as well as others to run the agency that has been plagued by its failure to preempt two alleged assassination attempts on Trump this summer, sources familiar with the president-elect’s thinking tell CNN.

Podcaster Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who was highly critical of the agency’s leadership as security failures around the alleged attempts on Trump’s life became clear, as well as Sean Curran, the head of Trump’s current detail, are among those being considered for the job.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, meanwhile, was unsuccessful in trying to set up a meeting with Trump this week.

Others on the list of potential picks include Robert Engel, the former head of Trump’s detail who was with him on January 6, 2021, and testified to the House select committee about the former president’s speech at the Ellipse that preceded the US Capitol attack.

As Trump continues to roll out names for top positions in the incoming administration, his choice for director of the Secret Service will be pivotal to the agency’s future – and a particularly personal one for the president-elect.

The Chicago Tribune criticized Oprah for reportedly accepting a $1 million “fee” from Vice President Kamala Harris’ now-failed campaign. The fee had been given to the talk-show host to appear on the campaign trail with Harris.

“Having someone with a large following simply stand next to a candidate at a podium and say a few words, solo, is one thing; doing a whole live-streamed event with, say, Oprah Winfrey, is another,” the newspaper wrote.

Since then, Oprah has denied personally accepting the funds. However, she admitted that her company, Harpo Productions, used the money to stage the Hollywood-studded town hall event for Harris.

“My time and energy was my way of supporting the campaign. For the live-streaming event in September, my production company, Harpo, was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers, and every other item necessary (including the benches and chairs we sat on) to put on a live production. I did not take any personal fee,” Oprah said, defending the controversy. “However, the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.” […]

An update on the PA Senate Recount: There's approximately ~50,000 potential ballots still to review. Philly is done. If trends hold at most there would be at most 40,000 valid ballots left to count most likely less. McCormick has a lead of 29,000 votes. Again no path for Casey.

It doesn’t stop there. According to reports, some women have begun stockpiling abortion pills, as well. In some more extreme cases, women are making plans to get sterilized.

According to The Hill, medication abortion providers reported a surge in requests for and purchases of the drugs in the hours after President-elect Trump was reelected last Tuesday (via The Hill):

Aid Access, a nonprofit organization that connects people to mail-order abortion pills, told The Hill it experienced more than a 16-fold increase in abortion medication requests the day after the election.

Typically, the site receives about 600 requests a day for the abortion pills mifepristone and misoprostol, the most common medication abortion regimen, according to executive director Rebecca Gomperts. It received 10,000 requests the day after the election.

Emergency contraception company Cadence OTC also experienced a boom in purchases — five times the amount the company normally sees in a week in just one day after the election, according to a spokesperson.

Wisp, a sexual and reproductive telehealth company, has similarly seen a tremendous increase in requests for abortion pills as well as emergency contraception like Plan B in the aftermath of Election Day. […]

Did Kamala perform better than Joe among some key voter groups? Yes, but it wasn’t enough to win. There’s an interesting tidbit from the Pod Save America folks, a podcast hosted by former Obama aides, which had a damning anecdote concerning Joe Biden’s internal polling and whether he waited too long. Non-Iron Man Jon Favreau said that a) Biden’s decision to run for re-election was a blunder from the get-go, and b) his internal polling had him losing to Trump in a landslide. Trump versus Biden would have resulted in a 400 electoral vote landslide by Mr. Trump:

That’s now a “flawless” campaign, which incredulously is her camp’s go-to talking point post-election—the Biden camp points to the blown money and electoral drubbing as rebuttals. Hundreds of Harris voters gathered Tuesday evening for the Harris campaign’s now-nixed victory party staged on the grounds of her alma mater, Howard University, a historically black college and university (HBCU).

When things went south, Harris didn’t immediately concede defeat to Donald Trump. She absconded, scampering off with her tail between her legs. Cedric Richmond, the Harris campaign co-chair, was trotted out to speak on her behalf. Addressing the audibly upset audience anxiously awaiting her appearance, Richmond announced they wouldn’t be hearing from her after all and that it was time to head home.

In a segment, Joe Scarborough ranted about how Democrats are out of touch with everyday Americans on cultural issues. This includes college students feeling unable to speak up about politics in their classes for fear of being “canceled.”

A man, Jordan Henry, enters a polling location in Glendale, California, where he goes eleven rounds with the polling officials, not conforming to his birthday or place of residence. When asked about his birthday, he said he was born in 1985, but also maybe not, puzzling the on-site official. When asked if he needed to provide his identification, the official said she trusted him because “it’s California.”

California is the most corrupt voting system in the US. When I voted in Glendale CA today, I refused to confirm my information was accurate, but the polling officials still had to trust me and issue a ballot.
