Jake Tapper asked Trudeau whether the election of Trump played “any role at all in your decision to resign as leader of your party and prime minister,” to which Trudeau replied, “No, on the contrary.”

“What we were able to do during the first presidency of Mr. Trump was work together, you know, in a very challenging situation to come out with a very strong win-win and Canada-US relations with the renegotiation of the USMCA. It is a great deal for both of our countries. We’ve seen trade grow, we’ve seen opportunities grow, we’ve seen wealth grow in both of our countries for workers, for businesses.

“Working together concretely is something that we’ve been able to do in the past and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him for the next 2 months while I’m still in office.”

Trudeau claimed that the country’s economy “is doing very well,” and that when you get “an intersection of both right-wing attacks and social media, you end up with a lot of misinformation, disinformation and responsible governments have to stay focused on the policies that are making a difference and that’s what we’ve been doing.” […]

LA Gave Away ‘Surplus’ Fire Fighting Equipment to Ukraine in 2022 https://uncanceled.news/la-gave-away-surplus-fire-fighting-equipment-to-ukraine-in-2022/ https://uncanceled.news/la-gave-away-surplus-fire-fighting-equipment-to-ukraine-in-2022/#respond Fri, 10 Jan 2025 05:43:17 +0000 https://uncanceled.news/la-gave-away-surplus-fire-fighting-equipment-to-ukraine-in-2022/ As wildfires in and around Los Angeles continue to grow, the county has been criticized for sending extra firefighting equipment to Ukraine.

Just months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, hoses, nozzles, helmets, body armor, bunker gear, and other personal protective equipment were sent over to the Eastern European country, which is still in the midst of a war against Russia two years later.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was reached out to by the “First-in Fire Foundation” and worked with LA County, LA City Fire, and the National Guard to collect extra surplus gear that was sitting in storage, per ABC 7.

Then-LA County Fire Chief Daryl Osby said at the time, “We are extremely proud to help our brothers and sister firefighters in Ukraine because we know how dangerous it is to fight fires with full gear. We’ve never experienced doing it in a war. So whatever we can do to assist them, to enable them to protect the lives and property of their fellow citizens, we’re on board.”

“Everyone wants to know what can we do to support these brave citizens of Ukraine who are, you know, risking their lives to save their country, and I think, I think the residents of L.A.County are going to appreciate this chief,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn. “And they’ll be able to say ‘we’re a part of a county that actually stepped up, and did something tangible to help those who are over there fighting this war.” […]

Oregon Appeals Court Says Project Veritas Not Allowed to Do Undercover Reporting in State https://uncanceled.news/oregon-appeals-court-says-project-veritas-not-allowed-to-do-undercover-reporting-in-state/ https://uncanceled.news/oregon-appeals-court-says-project-veritas-not-allowed-to-do-undercover-reporting-in-state/#respond Wed, 08 Jan 2025 11:02:31 +0000 https://uncanceled.news/oregon-appeals-court-says-project-veritas-not-allowed-to-do-undercover-reporting-in-state/ In a Tuesday ruling, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Project Veritas in a lawsuit regarding Oregon’s law banning undercover recording without letting involved parties know of the recording. Undercover reporting is a cornerstone of Project Veritas’ reporting, which has captured over the years many officials speaking candidly on video about topics while unknowingly being filmed.

“The en banc court affirmed the district court’s dismissal of a complaint brought by Project Veritas, a nonprofit media organization engaged almost exclusively in undercover journalism, alleging that Oregon’s conversational privacy statute violates the First Amendment, the court wrote in its ruling.

“Oregon’s conversational privacy statute requires that notice be given before oral conversations may be recorded,” with exceptions being granted such as the “felony exception,” which “allows a recording of a conversation during a felony that endangers human life” and a law enforcement exemption, which “allows a recording of a conversation in which a law enforcement officer is a participant if certain conditions are met,” the ruling added.

The court said that the privacy statute “is content-neutral because it does not discriminate on the basis of viewpoint or restrict discussion of an entire topic. Rather it places neutral, content-agnostic limits on the circumstances under which an unannounced recording of a conversation may be made.”

“Project Veritas fails to show that any unconstitutional applications of the conversation privacy statute substantially outweighed its constitutional applications.” […]

Officials say that Jabbar, who drove a Ford F-150 into crowds in New Orleans earlier this week, traveled to Cairo from June 22 to July 3, 2023. He then flew into Ontario on July 10 and returned to the US on July 13. Special Agent Lionel Myrthil did not elaborate on how the new information may explain a motive for the attack.

Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division Chris Raia reiterated that they believe Jabbar acted alone.

The FBI said during their Thursday press conference that they believe Jabbar acted alone and was “inspired” by ISIS but not “directed” by the terrorist organization. Jabbar rented the pickup truck in Houston on December 30 and drove to New Orleans on December 31. He posted several videos in which he proclaimed his support for ISIS. The FBI said that Jabbar had joined the terrorist organization “before this summer.” Two IEDs were recovered from the area and an ISIS flag was recovered “from the back of the vehicle.”

Raia said that three phones linked to Jabbar had been recovered as well as two laptops, and that an ISIS flag was “recovered from the back of the vehicle.” FBI bomb technicians recovered two IEDs in coolers, one which was located at the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans Street and one at an intersection around two blocks away. During his appearance on the New York Times podcast show, Blinken was asked about his decisions in aiding Ukraine against the Kremlin and said that prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the US “quietly got a lot of weapons to Ukraine to make sure that they had in hand what they needed to defend themselves.” Blinken said this was taking place as early as September 2021.

He added that these weapons included “things like stingers, javelins that they could use that were instrumental in preventing Russia from taking Kyiv from rolling over the country.”

Since the war began in February 2022, Biden has made several promises not to send certain weapons to avoid escalating the war further. However, he ultimately ended up sending these weapons to Ukraine anyway. Long-range missiles were one example, which Biden had previously said he would not do, but green-lit the weapons after all in September 2024.

Blinken claimed he “worked very hard in the lead-up to the war” in order to prevent the Russians from invading, however, he was not able to do so. President-elect Donald Trump has said that he will be able to end the war as he practically walks into office later in January. […]

The theme of the conference, hosted by Hizb ut-Tahrir, is “eliminating the obstacles that are delaying the return” of the global Islamic caliphate, the Western Standard first reported.

Hizb ut-Tahrir, which translates to “Party of Liberation,” posted about its Khalifah (Caliphate) Conference on Facebook, writing, “Is America really so powerful that our Ummah (community) can’t defeat it?”

“There have been superpower states in the past too, like the Romans and the Persians; yet, they were defeated by the Ummah. Their great cities, like Constantinople, are now Muslim cities,” the group continued. “What steps do we need to take to become victorious against today’s Colononialist superpowers? Learn what it will take for our Ummah to overcome America, Europe, Russia, China and others from the position we’re in today. If you want to help create real change in our Ummah, then get this critical knowledge by attending, inshallah.”

The controversial Hizb ut-Tahrir group, which operated under Sharia Law, has a goal of creating a global Muslim world. The group has been designated a terrorist entity in the United Kingdom, Germany, Egypt, India, China, Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, Bangladesh, and several Central Asian and Arab countries.

The Facebook post was accompanied by a video that depicted scenes of a Muslim conquest. […]

Russel L. Honoré, the man appointed by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to investigate Capitol Hill security after the Jan. 6 protest, is warning that Elon Musk is a “national security risk.” Honoré, who once suggested that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) should be on a no-fly list and Donald Trump Jr. arrested, wrote a column Sunday in The New York Times that suggested Musk is beholden to China.

Honore began by noting that Musk’s partner in the Department of Government Efficiency, Vivek Ramaswamy, has been a severe critic of the X billionaire.

“According to numerous interviews and remarks, Mr. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency co-leader, Vivek Ramaswamy, once appeared to believe he was. In May 2023, Mr. Ramaswamy went so far as to publicly state, ‘I have no reason to think Elon won’t jump like a circus monkey when Xi Jinping calls in the hour of need,’ a reference to China’s leader. In a separate X post targeting Mr. Musk, he wrote, ‘the U.S. needs leaders who aren’t in China’s pocket.’”

“Mr. Ramaswamy has since walked back his numerous public criticisms of Mr. Musk,” Honore continued, “but he was right to raise concerns. According to news reports, Mr. Musk and his rocket company, SpaceX, face federal reviews from the Air Force, the Defense Department’s Office of Inspector General and the under secretary of defense for intelligence and security for failing to provide details of Mr. Musk’s meetings with foreign leaders and other potential violations of national-security rules.”

Honore says his other “worries” include Musk’s business being “heavily reliant on China. He borrowed at least $1.4 billion from banks controlled by the Chinese government to help build Tesla’s Shanghai gigafactory, which was responsible for more than half of Tesla’s global deliveries in the third quarter of 2024.” […]

The case, US v. Skrmetti, sees the Department of Justice and the ACLU taking the state of Tennessee to court over a law that bans medical sex changes for minors. Jackson argued that child sex changes are akin to interracial marriage in law.

In her attempt to unearth the basis of the case, Jackson brought up the 1967 Loving v. Virginia, in which an interracial couple sued to have their marriage recognized by the state. Jackson said that the case about banning medical sex changes for minors and the case about the legality of interracial marriages were “sort of the same thing” in that both were about innate characteristics.

“So it’s interesting to me that we now have this different argument and I wonder whether Virginia could have gotten away with what they did here by just making a classification argument the way Tennessee is in this case,” Jackson said

Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, who has been leaning into the idea that the Tennessee law is discriminatory on the basis of sex, agreed with Jackson’s assessment, saying “Yes, I think that’s exactly right, that there is absolutely a parallel between any law that says you can’t act inconsistent with a protected characteristic.”

Both Prelogar and Jackson have made the leap that to be trans is the same thing as being of a certain race, something immutable and unchangeable, and in the case of trans, a condition that requires a person to undergo medical treatment to enable them to appear as the opposite sex. […]

Dem Reps Urge Biden to Extend Temporary Protective Status to Migrants From Ecuador, Nicaragua, El Salvador https://uncanceled.news/dem-reps-urge-biden-to-extend-temporary-protective-status-to-migrants-from-ecuador-nicaragua-el-salvador/ https://uncanceled.news/dem-reps-urge-biden-to-extend-temporary-protective-status-to-migrants-from-ecuador-nicaragua-el-salvador/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2024 11:19:17 +0000 https://uncanceled.news/dem-reps-urge-biden-to-extend-temporary-protective-status-to-migrants-from-ecuador-nicaragua-el-salvador/ Three Democratic senators are asking the lame-duck Biden-Harris administration to extend temporary protective status (TPS) to migrants from Ecuador, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) also petitioned the president to speed up the processing of any Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals. Currently, that status is given to those from Haiti, Cuba, Guatemala and Venezuela.

“We are eager to ensure that DACA recipients, TPS holders, and other immigrants who are critical members of our communities and economies are not forgotten during this busy time,” the senators began in a letter to President Joe Biden. They insisted that the “worsening crises in countries around the world, including in Ecuador, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, continue to endanger hundreds of thousands of people. Nationals from these three countries cannot return home due to severe circumstances on the ground.”

“Ecuadorians currently face horrific levels of violence that has only surged in recent years,” the letter stated, while “Nicaragua remains under the oppressive rule of President Daniel Ortega’s authoritarian regime, where widespread human rights violations by the government pose severe risks of state-sponsored violence and persecution to its citizens.” The senators also cited “both political and environmental conditions in El Salvador continue to justify TPS.”

The number of migrants residing in the US under the auspices of the TPS program more than doubled under the Biden administration. The Pew Research Center tabulated that TPS recipients compose 5.5 percent of all noncitizen immigrants in the US.

Under TPS, migrants are allowed to come to the US due to difficult conditions in their countries of origin ranging from terrorism, political conditions, violence, economic concerns, or natural disasters. Although the terms of the agreement allow an 18 month residency, the contract can be renewed with end. […]
