The Canyon Independent School District (CISD), which serves over 11,000 students across 21 schools in Amarillo and Canyon counties, reversed its decision to remove the Bible from its library just days after public outcry, according to a report from The Guardian.

The move followed the introduction of House Bill 900 (HB900), which came into effect in September 2023. The law mandates that library materials be reviewed and rated for explicit content, with a particular focus on shielding students from material deemed “sexually explicit” or “obscene.”

In an internal letter, CISD Superintendent Darryl Flusche explained that HB900’s broad language required the district to remove “numerous books,” including the full text of the Bible, until more clarification could be obtained. Flusche then allegedly advised students to obtain Bibles through local churches and encouraged parents to reach out to lawmakers about their concerns over the law.

The Dallas Express received a tip from a Fort Worth resident, informing us that the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth has a section called Diaries of Home. The documentary photography includes pictures of naked children and LGBTQ+ content.

“Diaries of Home features works by women and nonbinary artists, who explore the multilayered concepts of family, community, and home. These artists challenge documentary photography by pushing it into conceptual, performative, and theatrical realms. They probe preconceptions about domestic, familial, and communal spaces in the United States, which are often considered feminine spheres,” according to the Modern Art Museum website.

Of interest, none of the featured images on the museum’s website show pictures of naked children. However, visitors see much more than upon arrival… too much.

Earlier this month, The Dallas Express reported that officials from New Jersey were concerned over the growing number of unidentified drone sightings in the state. Congressman Josh Gottheimer announced legislation meant to address the issue, including one bill providing law enforcement additional funding to track the drones.

American Bible sales were up 22% through the end of October, compared with the same period in 2023, according to book tracker Circana BookScan.

Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote a letter to the President urging him to pardon WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to “send a clear message” that the outgoing administration will not target journalists.

The Australian WikiLeaks publisher pleaded guilty in June to charges related to publishing classified leaked U.S. military documents in 2010. He was sentenced to time served as part of a plea deal he reached with the U.S. Justice Department to end his overseas imprisonment in London. Assange had spent years in the Ecuadorian Embassy attempting to avoid extradition from the U.K. to the U.S.; however, he was apprehended and jailed in 2019.

“We write, first, to express our appreciation for your administration’s decision last spring to facilitate a resolution of the criminal case against publisher Julian Assange and to withdraw the related extradition request that had been pending in the United Kingdom,” the congressmen wrote to Biden. “This brought an end to Mr. Assange’s protracted detention and allowed him to reunite with his family and return to his home country of Australia.”
